The US Review of Books extols Howard O. A. Jones’ “Edafos”

Edafos is the first book in a series of novels dealing with themes such as courage, displacement, loss, and conscience. Written by Howard O.A. Jones, the book has just been critically acclaimed by The US Review of Books (USRB), helping to build its credibility and favorable peer-to-peer reception.

The novel tells the tale of Cardia, one of many continents in the realm of Edafos. The continent has been peaceful after 300 Years of War marked by clashes over land ownership started by the god-like beings called Divines.

For a little more than a hundred years, peace dominated the land, but not without unimaginable pain and suffering first. The state of order is now being jeopardized as corrupt Kings and religious struggles arise, and one boy has to conquer Cardia by going against the ideals of his own people. He forges his way across the land, coming at odds with many trials.

As Kat Kennedy of USRB puts it, Jones’ handling of some complex themes in the book is “remarkable.”

“He writes with a maturity and self-confidence that is far beyond his years.”

Kennedy notes that the characters are also young, reflecting the author’s age when he started writing the book. For example, the main character is 17. Jones also handled the “theme of courage, both in battle and in being true to oneself, is handled with great skill, Kennedy writes. She goes on:

“With an eye for detail and an understanding of human nature, Jones renders his characters fully rounded. Fantasy lovers of all ages should appreciate this accomplished work.”
