Author Spotlight: Frances Green, author of “Huntington”
Frances Green is the author of Huntington, a riveting book for teen readers to be re-published by Author Reputation Press.
The book follows two separate stories that are 100 years apart. One narrative is that of Nesta, a young girl who has been suspended over an accusation that she set her school on fire. Another is that of a group of children who lived in Nesta’s town 100 years ago.
While in suspension, Nesta reads a book titled Huntington, a story about a boy and his friends with a pet owl and monkey. Their story startles Nesta due to its similarity to her situation. Huntington and his friends are sent to a rectory and they are later accused of setting their school alight.
Nesta’s story presents some questions that reflect the story on the book. Is she innocent? Will she go back to school? Will her mother and father get together again? Will she have to go into care or worse? What is worse than being taken away from her dad? Or will they find something and someone much more wonderful? What about the children in the book she is given to read particularly the two boys? Did they set their school on fire? Will they find the families they were stolen from when they were babies? Who is the strange constable, and what about the fierce circus beast? Where is the Reverend Lamb? Will he be found, and who will lead these children to know something and someone more wonderful?
The author, born in York during the Second World War, wrote stories for friends at school at a young age. Frances moved to Harrogate at the age of two and has since lived there. Married and with a son and daughter, Frances has spent her working life with children and young people including blind and special needs children.
