Author Spotlight: Carolyn Ramsey-Williams, a veteran teacher and author of “Why Spiders Eat Flies”
Carolyn Ramsey-Williams is the author of Why Spiders Eat Flies, a pourquoi story of how the friendship between a spider and a fly develops. The book will be published by Author Reputation Press.
The author is a former teacher who spent four decades imparting her knowledge to her students. Upon her retirement, Carolyn took it upon herself to write about her experience with a diverse class of students.
Why Spiders Eat Flies follows the story of Sultan, an Arabic word meaning “ruler” in English, and Amari, an African word which means “builder”, who both live in the jungle. They spend lots of time together, but one day Amari shifts focus away from their friendship toward something else. Their friendship is tested, with a surprising outcome.
In the end, after some time dealing with disappointments, they learn to respect each other’s personalities. Carolyn aims to give her readers situations they can identify with using the interactions she has with her grandchildren.
The author mainly focuses on themes that she hopes will teach a lesson, reflect upon a particular time, or help make a decision. She lives in Durham, North Carolina, is a mother of two, and a grandmother of four grandchildren.

In a society where literacy is a critical issue, it’s warm and welcoming to see an educator dive in and take the “flight “ toward being a part of the solution. Kids need to read high-interest books that bring them in close proximity of life as they know it. Congratulations, Carolyn!!! Keep the “lights” burning!!!
