We have just released H. Allenger‘s Ahuitzotl: A Novel Of Aztec Mexico, a compelling historical romance novel that chronicles how the arrogant pride and an impassioned love of a woman bring the greatest of Aztec warrior-kings, Ahuitzotl, to downfall.
The savage conqueror Ahuitzotl shapes the events that ultimately lead to his destruction. Proud and ambitious, the undefeated and charismatic warlord lets nothing in his way to stop his vainglorious goals. He resolves to depose the present monarch after being assured by the leader of the inter-clan council that he would be appointed as the successor. As a ruler, he has made a name for himself as an undisputed warlord by winning a series of conquests.
Ahuitzotl eventually reveals his ultimate plan for a mass sacrifice during the dedication ceremony of the Great Temple in his capital. The priests begin to see his actions as displeasing the gods, with Ahuitzotl leading his people to their greatest heights only to bring them to catastrophe.
Some have come to believe he is being punished for having offended the gods. He then alienates his allied lords as he seeks to place their kingdoms under his domination. He manipulates the lives of his two most beloved women to serve his own selfish purposes, bringing grief to them both.
When matched in skill and prowess by the lord of a rival power, he becomes obsessed with destroying his opponent, unable to tolerate this blow to his ego, and sets into motion forces that culminate in a cruel retribution against him. The world of the Aztec ruling elites, with its intrigues, politics, and bloody rituals comes to life for the reader in this epic work.
