P.M. Sabin Moore reignites the life of King Raedwald of Sutton Hoo in an interview with Ric Bratton
P.M. Sabin Moore is Ric Bratton’s guest for this episode of This Week in America, where the author talks about her book Brightfire: A Tale Of Sutton Hoo.
This historical novel is the sequel to Moore’s Storm Frost and covers the events during and after the reign of Anglo-Saxon King Raedwald of Sutton Hoo, who was buried in his ship.
Set predominantly in King Raedwald’s homestead nearby, the story occurred between 608AD and 633AD when Christianity fights to take control of the eastern side of Britain. Also, some scenes took place in Northumbria and elsewhere.
Brightfire depicts scenes of fighting and feasting, rescue and rape, cruelty and kindness, laughter and grief. It is loosely based on a small portion of the early Anglo-Saxon history that we know, provided by Saint Bede, who wrote his History in 731, just over a century after Raedwald died.
