Tyrone Waters’ “You Would Be Paranoid Too If This Happened to You” is an upcoming book that talks about surviving mental health problems
You Would Be Paranoid Too If This Happened to You is a true story told by Dr. Tyrone Waters D.D. It tackles the subject of mental health racism, a timely topic amid growing concerns of discrimination against mental health patients.
The book is published by Author Reputation Press, written by a Gulf War Veteran who has battled paranoid schizophrenia himself since 1995.
It unravels the events leading up to his shooting by Portland Police during a mental breakdown outside his home in 2001.
Waters and his mother, retired State Sen. Avel Gordly, received community service awards from the American Jail Association in 2010 at the Oregon Convention Center. The award was for his courage in speaking publicly against the shootings in his town.
The author intends for his book to be an educational tool not only for people with mental illness but also for law enforcement authorities in order to change their approach to people with mental health issues.
