“The Dragon Commons” by Tiffany Clavecilla is on the list of the 2022 Eric Hoffer Award Grand Prize Short List

The Eric Hoffer Award announces a small set of grand prize award finalists. According to their post, less than 5% of the nominees become grand prize award finalists. This small list, or “short list,” of finalists is an honorable distinction of its own and is announced publicly during the spring of each award year prior to the grand prize announcement. Tiffany Clavecilla’s book “The Dragon Commons” is on the list of the Eric Hoffer Award Grand Prize Short List for 2022.
The Eric Hoffer Book Award commemorates the famous American philosopher Eric Hoffer’s memory by honoring outstanding writing and the independent spirit of small publishers. Since its foundation, Hoffer has grown to become one of the most prestigious worldwide book awards for small, academic, and independent presses.
Tiffany Clavecilla published her book, “The Dragon Commons,” with Author Reputation Press. It’s a story that transports readers to a new era of time and introduces them to a realm of mysteries and wars.
“The Dragon Commons” is a book set in the year 2048 that presents a story. Beyond the Tiered Nations, in a walled city, a battle between dragons and wyrms is brewing. Ardyce, a Tree Crown Drake, and the leader of her tribe went out to investigate a huge hole in the ground. She is joined by her family and companion, Sasithorn, as a wyrm attacks, and they must fight for their lives. “Live beyond satiation,” is the Tiered Nations’ slogan, and consumerism is the only religion. Hadryn and his best buddy Thaddius are soldiers in the city morgue, investigating a peculiar death: a limb-hewn body that appears to have been torn by dead animals.
All items are produced in laboratories and packaged as “cubed food.” This includes meat. Before Hadryn and Thaddius can continue their examination of the body, two letters to Hadryn arrive. One is from Hadryn’s long-time epistolary paramour, Oshin Rysing, who lives in a rebel colony outside the Tiered Nations and opposes the city’s gluttonous habits. His father’s second letter informs Hadryn that he would marry an unknown person, as is customary for young women of marriageable age. Hadryn intends to confront his father during his engagement banquet, but strange episodes of individuals appearing to be sick with a horrible disease that leads to self-cannibalism occur, and a creature from Hadryn’s dreams appears.
