Larry Golicz is a lifelong boater, who loves to fish, snorkel, scuba, and explore reeds with their many inhabitants. The water continues to be a place for him and his family including his five grandchildren, full of curiosity about the animal world in the sea. Inspired by their enthusiasm, Larry humanizes reef life describing them with wit and wisdom. In the end, the moral of his story goes to learning more about our world and working to keep it the best place to live for ourselves and our animal friends in the sea, always working to balance for a healthy reef and conservation of one of the greatest resources in our world, now declining in many places with overfishing and pollution.

“A Fish Called Bad Eyes: Finding Marsha’s Glasses” by Larry Golicz presents the story of Bad Eyes, a very small Manini fish that lives on a reef in Hawaii and has very poor eyesight. He is escorted to the back of his school and charged with posing as bait for predators, but he is also the fastest swimmer in the school, allowing him to survive. Will his terrifying life change when Marsha’s spectacles fall into the water above him? He swims up to study the clear, crystalline rings when they abruptly catch over his eyes. Marsha meets Bad Eyes while diving to collect her spectacles; he is now seeing better than any fish on the reef. They start talking on their own accord. Marsha lends Bad Eyes her glasses.
