“The Pie, The Pie, and Oh that Smell!” by Connie Smith was nominated for the 2024 Eric Hoffer Book Award

The US Review of Books recently announced the much-awaited results for the 2024 Eric Hoffer Book Award.

“The Pie, The Pie, and Oh that Smell!” by Connie Smith, published by Author Reputation Press, was one of the nominees for the 2024 Eric Hoffer Book Award. This masterpiece was highly praised by Michael Radon of the US Review of Books, acknowledging that “Images in the book of the happy family working together to not just make food but also clean up the inevitable mess that follows can make even the hard work look like fun. Children may also want to read the story multiple times to appreciate the upbeat attitude and good message but also to find a hidden chicken in every illustration. This book, with its large illustrations, colorful characters, and warm, inviting tone, not only shows kids how parents need and deserve gratitude for their efforts but also opens up the conversation about children pitching in on tasks that they may take an interest in when they are old enough to handle them.”

Eric Hoffer Book Award honors the memory of the great American philosopher Eric Hoffer by highlighting salient writing, as well as the independent spirit of small publishers. Since its establishment, the Hoffer has become one of the largest international book awards for small, academic, and independent presses.

The US Review of Books supports the Eric Hoffer Project by publishing the results of the annual Eric Hoffer Award for Books. The Eric Hoffer Award is judged by a separate panel, under the direction of the Eric Hoffer Project.
