“Local Yokels” is a story about the close brotherhood of the fire service that is shown when Bootknife and the Local Yokels of Uville face the most challenging week of their lives. A weeklong stretch of structure fires has turned this into the busiest consecutive fire period in the department’s history.
Bootknife and his fellow firefighters will fight these fires with all of their abilities in order to save lives and safeguard the houses of their neighbors. These “brothers in battle” are used to running toward danger, but when a house fire causes a partial collapse, three of them will struggle to survive.
This masterpiece was displayed during the much-anticipated annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 was held on April 22–23, 2023 at the University of Southern California. The festival was launched to connect individuals who read books with those who write them.
