Author Spotlight: Troy Johnson, author of “The Lighter Side of Darkness”

Troy Johnson

Troy “Pappy” Johnson, author of The Lighter Side of Darkness, was born and raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn until the summer of 1977.

Then he and his family moved to Montclair, New Jersey where he graduated from M.H.S. He spent the following years (1981-1992) at Howard University, where he received a BS in Fashion Fundamentals.

Johnson also served at the US Army where he proudly served in War Campaigns: Desert Storm/Shield to receive an Honorable Discharge. After completing his duties, he pursued a career in Theatrical/ Film Production in NYC.

Some of his Production Assistant credits are as follows: Dance Theatre of Harlem, Madison Square Garden, Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and New York City Ballet. Film/Video credits include: “I’m Doin Me” (Video) Fantasia , Promo Commercials for MSNBC with Spike Lee, “Wake Up”(Video) featuring John Legend and Gillette Pro-glide Face-off Challenge with Robert Townsend. BROADWAY: Phantom of the Opera, Grease, Damn Yankees, The Chairs, Showboat and Les Miserable.

His book is a supernatural thriller based on actions taken by God to eliminate evil forever. God ironically commissions sinners to remove Satan from Hell by answering the final prayer of Dimitrius, an ex- marine now condemned death row prisoner. He is sent to Hell to save the souls of his family by recruiting the souls of the damned who wish to be redeemed, causing commotion in Hell.
