Linda Luisa Varela Tychsen talks to Kate Delaney about her book “The Torch Bearer’s Exorcism”
Linda Luisa Varela Tychsen has discussed the inspiration and some never-before known facts about her book, The Torch Bearer’s Exorcism, with Kate Delaney for America Tonight.
The author shared how she came up with the idea for the book, which illustrates bittersweet circumstances related to love affairs in the real world.
This story starts at the close of the 1980s. It follows the story of Cherie, an unusually private and guarded girl with a nonconforming sense of style and a habit of constantly doubting everything around her.
When she meets David during her first week on campus her emotions go into overdrive. Naïve in terms of love, Cherie engages in a relationship of sorts with him, only to have her heart broken and her worldview jaded more than ever. However, Cherie can’t seem to escape David’s charm as she finds herself drawn to him every time their paths cross.
The intensity of her feelings for him is a story readers can relate to. When Cherie goes to college, it’s an escape from the abusive household she grew up in. She falls into the trap of love for David because she has no frame of reference for a healthy relationship.
