Colonel Richard W. Block shares with Benji Cole from CBS Radio the story of his book, “Coffee with Jesus”, about the things that often go unnoticed yet give meaning to life

There are a lot of things that are present yet are taken for granted. Like how common the clouds let go of their water to give rain to the thirsty plants and trees. How mundane and familiar the taste of the everyday breakfast. How not unusual to listen to one’s favorite music. How ordinary the little kindnesses did by strangers. How good as nothing that there are trees that make the surrounding a colorful background and provide fresh air. As things and happenings happen almost every day, they are often unappreciated and go unnoticed. It is saddening that when a thing changed from “is” to “was”, that with its absence, only then it is appreciated and most if not all long for its presence.

The author of this book, Colonel Richard W. Block, is a Fourth Degree Knight, N.R.A. Life Member, and Certified Instructor who works with the parents of West Point Cadets of Indiana. He is an Eagle Scout and has been a Scouter for 50 years. He is an avid sportsman and a instructor for the Department of Wildlife.

Benji Cole interviewed the author and discovered the whys of writing this book. The book was inspired by Block’s desire to write short stories about his life experiences so that others may relate to or learn from them.

Volume two, “Coffee with Jesus,” is a continuation of volume one, “Life as I Lived – Small Town Country Living.” The adventures are still going on.

What makes this book interesting is that it gives a fresh angle of perspective on extraordinarily seeing ordinary things. The book’s stories remind the readers to allow the eyes of their hearts to see the familiar moments in many unfamiliar ways, which appreciation may foster.
