Patricia Adams, author of the inspirational book “Called to Help the Poor and Needy,” is interviewed by CBS Radio’s Benji Cole
Patricia Adams and Benji Cole discuss one of God’s most fundamental commandments. Helping the poor and needy is one way to show our love for our neighbors. The message of this motivating and illuminating book, Called to Help the Poor and Needy, is that the blessed becomes a blessing to others.
Do we have a clear understanding of God’s attitude toward the impoverished and suffering? Do we understand and display our accountability? Do we act in accordance with God’s purposes for the poor and suffering?
The Bible is laden with reminders to care for the poor and disadvantaged. According to the Bible, God “takes up the case” of individuals who have been crushed. We become advocates for the impoverished when we follow His lead, doing everything we can to fight for what is right and just. May the readers of this book be reminded to take a close look at the situation of the poor and how God has entrusted us to respond.
Called to Help the Poor and Needy focuses on the more than two thousand verses in the Bible that encourage us to take care of the poor and needy in both the Old and New Testaments. The story centers on what God has to say about this important topic in the Bible and how we can better live out God’s demands.
Patricia Said Adams, also known as Pat, was born in 1941 and spent her youth and adolescence in Louisville, Kentucky, and Wilmington, Delaware. She earned a BA in Art History from Connecticut College in 1963. She has worked in banking and retail, with her favorite position being as a buyer for women’s sportswear. She and her husband raised three children; he provided financial assistance, and she volunteered at schools and churches. She’s been a Spiritual Director for 13 years and an eight-year blogger on the spiritual life, so she knows what it’s like to work with people on a soul level. The essential question in her life is: how do I, how do we, live the lives that God has intended for us? Her debut novel is titled “Thy Kingdom Come!” She’s working on another book about how the Exodus story can serve as a model for us all, showing how we can go from enslavement to the world to life in the kingdom.
This book is a call to action for those of us who desire to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and heed God’s call, that we are Called to Help the Poor and Needy.
