The book “We’ve Done Them Wrong,” by George E. Saurman, which explores the concept of acknowledging the wrong to heal and mend, is now available for purchase
In 1926, George E. Saurman was born in Houston. During World War II, he served with the Sixty-Fifth Infantry Division in the European Theater and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Ursinus College. He held many executive roles in business and worked in municipal and state governments for 33 years. He and his wife, Mary, have four daughters, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren after sixty-two years of marriage. They now reside in Pennsylvania.
“From the mountains, to the prairies To the oceans white with foam, Every Native American Must leave his home.” Imagine that someone comes to your house with a gun and orders you to leave. Your reaction could be described as “savage.” The New World conquerors referred to the American Indians as “savages.”
As the government signed accords that they later broke, settlers pursued them throughout the continent. They also committed atrocities against the indigenous people. George E. Saurman, a World War II veteran and proud American, explores what really happened to Native American Indians in his book “We’ve Done Them Wrong,” looking at Native American Indian tribes and customs, early settlers’ actions, including William Penn’s holy experiment, Native American Indian contributions, and current conditions on reservations.
The author also discusses how the Bureau of Indian Affairs handled native-settler relations as well as what Native American Indians have said about events in the past and present. Even today, broken promises conceal what’s really going on in Native American Indian communities; it’s past time to make a serious attempt to correct the issue, which begins with admitting that we’ve done them wrong.
