“I only want you to feel good about yourself and be happy,”
– Antonia Babauta Lyzenga
For more than three decades, Antonia Babauta Lyzenga has been a teacher. She now writes about the cultural insights of a small island. Lyzenga is a great-grandmother and the mother of three grown children. She resides in Dayton, Nevada, with her spouse. Her second book is this one, and the sequel to her first book, “Happy Island.”
“Happy Island and The Typhoons” is a book that narrates the adventure of Deno and Lela, who fought and overcome tragedy and never lost hope of finding family and love. The two children live on an island called Happy Island. They’re living a happy and peaceful life, but not every time a typhoon visits their island. Since Deno and Lela were used to this situation, they knew what to do and were able to survive the storm. However, their home was destroyed and their parents, who went fishing, were missing. How were their parents able to survive the tragedy? Where were they able to see them again? As life goes on, hope will never lose its light.
Life is not just all about rainbows and cupcakes. Life is not always happy, just like when we lose someone. Other feelings are left unstated when we haven’t encountered complicated things yet. Just like how the story gives an image of moving forward after a disastrous event happens and the unpleasant news they hear. The children still hoped, and the parents who might be alive were finding a way to go home. Life is an adventure that needs to be faced and enjoyed.
