“She loved “the old house” and her crowded bedroom. These were familiar to her and made her feel welcomed. Not that she hadn’t been welcomed by Franny’s family in Hāna, but family was family. She really believed that one didn’t have to achieve fame or wealth with family. One was loved for being family.”

Author Reputation Press is honored to publish “Aloha Nui Loa: A Pineapple Plantation Story” by Yvonne Lee McIntire. As one of the readers commented, this masterpiece is “a delightful love story set in days gone by that recreates Old Hawaiʻi with evocative imagery and language that transports the reader back in time.” The book is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the ARP website.
Yvonne Lee McIntire is the author of a cookbook, The View from Pono Place, Old Fashioned Recipes and a Recollection, 2020. Born in the town of Wahiawā, O’ahu, she grew up on a nearby pineapple plantation.
She presently lives on the north shore of Maui, on a bluff overlooking the ocean. Her home is built on a former pineapple field, which prompted her mother to exclaim, “You can take the girl out of the plantation, but you can’t take the plantation out of the girl!” A former Sunday School teacher, Mrs. McIntire enjoys sewing, crocheting, and baking.
She is currently working on other writing projects. Volume 2 of her cookbook is due out later this year. She is living a mother’s dream, she says, with her son and his wife living next door. Of all the hats she wears, her favorite is that of tūtū (granny) to her two grandchildren.
“Aloha Nui Loa: A Pineapple Plantation Story” presents the time when it was going to be a great summer on O’ahu, enjoying family, working a part-time job, and relishing time off from college life on Maui. Yet culinary student Eden Andres didn’t foresee that her return to her beloved plantation home after two years away at school would change the direction of her life.
In Aloha Nui Loa, local girl Eden Andres meets Ben Alexander. She is the daughter of the union representative, and he is the son of the chief stockholder of the corporation that owns the pineapple plantation where her father is employed. They couldn’t be more contrasting in their backgrounds and lifestyles.
But frequent encounters cause sparks to fly, and with more lengthy times spent together love blossoms. As their relationship deepens, Eden and Ben must face what seem like insurmountable obstacles to their happiness. Ben has ghosts from his past that will challenge the trust and respect they have for each other. It will take a steadfast belief in their love to weather the impending storm in their paths.
Will love triumph over all? Aloha Nui Loa paints an accurate and insightful picture of pineapple plantation life in Hawai’i in the mid-to-late-1900s. Many details are provided that only someone who lived them would be aware of. This is part of the real Hawai’i, and you’ll be gratified to have an inside view.
