Wyveda I. Philbert, the author of “A Young Man’s Dream/ An Old Man’s Reality”, was interviewed by Benji Cole of CBS Radio

Benji Cole of CBS Radio interviews the author of “A Young Man’s Dream/An Old Man’s Reality”, Wyveda I. Philbert. They talk about the author’s motivation and message for writing this book.

People of Distinction is one of the most extensive and wide-ranging radio shows in the United States. Hosted by Benji Cole and Al Cole from CBS Radio, People of Distinction is the right fit for authors who want to increase their exposure to readers. The radio program airs on Apple’s iTunes Radio Network (Professional News/Talk), featuring CBS Radio, Fox News, NPR, and C-Span.

Wyveda I. Philbert lives in southern Indiana with her husband, Joe, and her cat, Cotton. They live in a long red cedar cabin, which her husband builds. They have six children. She loves spending time with her grandchildren and serving her church. She was the past president of the local garden club. She enjoys drawing, painting, and knitting, as well as feeding the local birds that visit her yard.

“A Young Man’s Dream/An Old Man’s Reality” is a day-to-day journal about the 5000-mile boat trip known as “The Loop” or “The Great Circle”. This is about a young man’s dream of doing this trip after reading a book about it and working on the sailboat for five years.

Joe’s preparation for this trip reminds us of our preparation and struggles to reach our dreams and goals in life. The journey to our dreams may be very rough and bumpy, but with the support of the people around us and our loved ones, the journey becomes smooth sailing. Struggles become bearable if we have someone to share them with. This also reminds us that the struggles we’ve been through make the experience worthwhile because we are doing it for a purpose, for the fulfillment of our dreams.

Life is meaningless if we don’t have someone to share it with. Just like in the book, Joe was with his wife and their cat during their boat trip. The trip became meaningful because they were together, enjoying each other’s company. They were able to meet other people during their journey, too. It feels great to have someone to share or enjoy the beauty of God’s creation with. Indeed, no man is an island.

This book was also highly praised by Michelle Jacobs of the US Review of Books, who stated, “Philbert describes the natural world, including wildlife encounters, vibrant sunsets, and the changing face of the water as tides shift, and winds roughen the surface. This charming travel memoir offers day-to-day vignettes that reveal what it takes to follow a dream on the water. Stamina, luck, and preparation are all a part of the journey.”

This is an inspiring story that reminds us that it is not too late for us to realize our dreams.
