“Who Drew the Two?” by Melton Luttrell was among the books displayed by Author Reputation Press during the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 at the University of Southern California on April 22-23, 2023. The much-anticipated annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 was held on April 22–23, 2023. It was attended by nearly 500 authors and hundreds of exhibitors. The festival was launched to connect individuals who read books with those who write them. The range of book genres exhibited at the festival captivated readers of all ages. Melton Luttrell was born in Eastland County, Texas, in October 1928. He has recorded several records for Square-L-Records, which he organized and managed for several years. Beginning in 1960, Melton and his wife, Sue, managed several Square-L Records Institutes annually at various resorts in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. They also worked at annual square dance resorts in Colorado and Missouri. Melton has called festivals in over forty states and abroad in England, Australia, New Zealand, and even Saudi Arabia.

“Who Drew the Two?” by Melton Luttrell presents the story of the murder of one of the richest young men in the city, which has the entire community in a whisper. As police chief Ward Thompson and sheriff Buck Jones team up to locate the culprit and the motivation for the murder, five of the city’s important business owners become engaged in the circumstances that led up to the tragic event.

The epic narrative of a tiny town is portrayed through a diverse ensemble of individuals, including the proprietor of the local cafe, the bank president’s secretary, and the murder victim’s widow. Weddings, divorces, and second marriages all create a suspect trail that might point to the murderer’s identity. West Texas high school football, square dancing, gambling in Las Vegas, and hunting and fishing expeditions all help to solve the case in an odd way. As a strange network of interconnected events plays out, the question remains: Who Drew the Two?
