“Aloha Nui Loa: A Pineapple Plantation Story” by Yvonne Lee McIntire was among the books displayed by Author Reputation Press during the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 at the University of Southern California on April 22-23, 2023.

The much-anticipated annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 was held on April 22–23, 2023. It was attended by nearly 500 authors and hundreds of exhibitors. The festival was launched to connect individuals who read books with those who write them. The range of book genres exhibited at the festival captivated readers of all ages. Witness musical performances, readings from authors, exciting exhibits, and much more!

The Los Angeles Times is the country’s biggest metropolitan daily newspaper, with more than 40 million unique latimes.com visitors monthly, a Sunday print readership of 1.6 million, and a combined print and online local weekly viewership of 4.4 million. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Times has been covering Southern California for more than 140 years.

Author Reputation Press is committed to connecting readers and authors through books. ARP participated in the book gallery organized by LATFOB. In line with this, ARP exhibited some of its spectacular books to the festival audience. The wide selection of genres made the gallery more enticing.

Yvonne Lee McIntire was born in the town of Wahiawā, O’ahu, and she grew up on a nearby pineapple plantation. She also wrote a cookbook, The View from Pono Place, Old Fashioned Recipes and a Recollection, 2020.

She is currently working on other writing projects. Volume 2 of her cookbook is due out later this year. She is living a mother’s dream, she says, with her son and his wife living next door. Of all the hats she wears, her favorite is that of tūtū (granny) to her two grandchildren.

Aloha Nui Loa: A Pineapple Plantation Story” presents the story of a local girl that lives in Aloha Nui Loa, Eden Andres, who meets Ben Alexander. She is the daughter of the union representative, and he is the son of the chief stockholder of the corporation that owns the pineapple plantation where her father is employed. They couldn’t be more contrasting in their backgrounds and lifestyles.

However, repeated conversations lead to sparks igniting, and as more time is spent together, love grows. Eden and Ben’s relationship strengthens, and they encounter what appear to be insurmountable challenges to their happiness. Ben has ghosts from his past that will test their trust and regard for one another.

To weather the approaching storm in their paths, they will need to have a firm conviction in their love. Will love conquer all? Aloha Nui Loa paints an accurate and insightful picture of pineapple plantation life in Hawaii in the mid- to late-1900s.
