“Agatha and Frank’s Story: Stranded on Rosland Island” presents the story of Agatha and Frank when they finally retired and planned on sailing around the islands off the east coast for a couple of years. But that dream was put on hold when they got stranded on an island due to a storm. But it wasn’t just any island; they learned in time.
They were stranded, and there was nothing around as far as they could see. This story was based on Agatha’s journal during their stay on the island, with the hope that someday they would be rescued.
They called the island “Rosland Island”. They learned later that it was once a mountain range connected to the mainland, and as time passed, the mountain range sank into the ocean. Only Rosland Island was left, where once a land mass had existed. The island has two mountains on it, one at each end. There are many stories to tell about Agatha and Frank’s adventures and about who lived on the land mass besides the Merbeings.
This book was commended by Priscilla Estes of The US Review of Books, who acknowledges that, “In a sweet, direct style, Rose displays wonderful imagination and paints a loving portrayal of the couple’s marriage. Frank’s direct humor, as well as his resourcefulness, imbues realism to Agatha’s “diary.” Fantasy elements, such as when a merboy (male mermaid) washes up on the shore, add to the charm of the narrative. The couple’s discoveries appeal to the wondrous child that always resides deep within. Imagine mysterious patches of dark water that hold a secret, hidden chambers that hint at the mysteries of mankind, sunken cities of inexplicable grandeur, and the thrill of building a home on a tropical paradise. In addition to this story, Rose has written three other books on the “Merbeing” culture. A delightful imagination and a charming delivery make this illustrated book an entertaining read and one that tickles the imagination. Who knew getting shipwrecked could be so much fun?”
