Recently, “Global Warming: The Problem” was among the books displayed and published by Author Reputation Press during the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 at the University of Southern California on April 22-23, 2023.
Pacific Book Review’s Christina Avina wrote in the review that “thoughtful, captivating, and engaging, author Wilfred Candler’s Global Warming: The Problem is a must-read non-fiction book on environmentalism and the impact of humanity on the planet. The shocking reality of the uphill battle we as a species are facing and the dire nature of this book’s findings help to motivate and enlighten those without the knowledge of the direct causes of global warming in the modern day, as well as some of the solutions that would benefit us all as a society moving forward.”
The author of this masterpiece, Wilfred Candler, Ph.D., has been a Professor of Agricultural Economics at Massey University in New Zealand and Purdue University in the United States; subsequently, he worked briefly for the Canadian Government before joining the World Bank. As an Evaluation Officer at the World Bank, he spent several decades looking at and evaluating the impact of investment projects worldwide.
In his retirement, he has focused on the emergence of “fossil fuels” and the extravagant impact they have had in driving economic progress, firstly led by Britain, then by the United States, and now (?) by China, and how this progress and expansion way exceeds anything that we can expect to use fossil fuels. He is married with four sons, seven granddaughters, and one grandson.”
“Global Warming: The Problem” is a quick but detailed look into the dynamics of the earth’s most prominent climate problem, global warming. It investigates different claims established as debilitating factors due to the excess CO2 in the atmosphere. It debunks the ones that do not stand up to scientific scrutiny and solidify the ones that have remained true through every probe.
The book looks at how government actions and inactions have further worsened the problems. Policies and laws that would inspire changes are ignored while they embrace those that have only face value. Taxes should be heavily imposed on industries that support fossil-fuel burning until fossil fuel is left under the ground, where it has stayed for millions of years.
Here’s an excerpt from the book review according to the Pacific Book Review that highlights:
“The author does a wonderful job of sharing complex ideas about the science behind global warming in a way which speaks to the reader in a comprehensive way. The expertise and gravity of the author’s writings style and the intricate details the author put into the facts of this study highlight the urgency and need for both this subject and the author’s need to get the public far more knowledgeable and aware of the impact we are having on the world. The fascinating moments came in more retrospective passages, such as the study of crop circle phenomena and the faux fear that many feel towards nuclear energy due to its association with nuclear weapons, for the need for clean fuel is massive and only by understanding the ins-and-outs of the use of these new power sources can we hope to achieve any meaningful change.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy non-fiction reads about environmentalism, especially those with a specific technology and science application and the study of biology in fossils. The balance of scientific data and analysis with contemplative and thought-provoking discussions fueled by the author’s writing and directly connected to the reader as a whole made this such a powerful and memorable read.”
