The US Review of Books (USRB) highly commends “The Pie, The Pie, and Oh that Smell!” by Connie Smith

Michael Radon of the US Review of Books highly praises “The Pie, The Pie, and Oh that Smell!” by Connie Smith.

The book was recently featured in the Publisher Weekly Magazine’s August 28, 2023, issue. The publication offers feature articles and news on all aspects of the book business and bestseller lists in a number of categories, but its best-known service is prepublication book reviews, of which it publishes nearly 9,000 per year.

This book was also displayed during the much-anticipated annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 was held on April 22–23, 2023 at the University of Southern California. It was attended by nearly 500 authors and hundreds of exhibitors. The festival was launched to connect individuals who read books with those who write them. The range of book genres exhibited at the festival captivated readers of all ages.

“The Pie, The Pie, and Oh that Smell!” by Connie Smith presents the story of Cindy’s mom, who loves and enjoys baking delicious cakes and pastries. But one day, Mom grows tired of doing all the baking and cleaning up by herself and stops cooking entirely. Her family misses the delicious aroma of her baking.

But how can they express their gratitude to her?

Will Mom make Cindy’s favorite apple pie for her birthday?

Here is an excerpt from the US Review of Books that highlights:

Images in the book of the happy family working together to not just make food but also clean up the inevitable mess that follows can make even the hard work look like fun. Children may also want to read the story multiple times to appreciate the upbeat attitude and good message but also to find a hidden chicken in every illustration. This book, with its large illustrations, colorful characters, and warm, inviting tone, not only shows kids how parents need and deserve gratitude for their efforts but also opens up the conversation about children pitching in on tasks that they may take an interest in when they are old enough to handle them.”
