“Pages of memories unfolded in my hands. The memories brought joy and laughter. Before I knew it, I was lost in time and settled in to ride a roller coaster of emotions. Smiles ushered me to the next series of photos. Taking a deep breath, I relaxed my head and shoulders onto the sofa and closed my eyes for a moment. More thoughts of Mommy came to mind and I began to miss her immensely.”

Life is such a gift. Let’s appreciate it even more as the years pass. Some seasons of life are longer than others, but along the way, every life has value. We must not view our mistakes as the definition of our existence. We are greater than the sum of our mistakes. We have a story to tell, and although it may not be rosy on every page, it is our story, and that makes it valuable. It’s our reality. The author invites you in as she turns a few pages of her life and interprets the wisdom of family, friends, neighbors, and a no-nonsense mother. She remembers when…
Author Jackie Brown Riddick is a native of Sunbury, North Carolina, where she grew up in rural Gates County and attended public schools. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. She is happily married and honors the sanctity of marriage as the loving wife to Phillip Riddick for 30 years, mother of two sons (Phil and Mikey), and one granddaughter (Mikayla).
She has traveled to many lands but insists that people are the same, like passions. She believes God loves us all and that everyone has value. While sharing her experiences, she hopes to empower others to thrive in their virtues and abilities and simply enjoy life. She ministers alongside her husband, Phillip, who is a pastor. They currently live in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Life was different back in the day. The community was vital. Childhood antics, teenage exploits, and the challenges of young adulthood revealed she didn’t know what she thought she knew. Through all of this, the greatest influence on her life was her mom. She helped her process the good and the bad.
Instead of being one-dimensional, live, love, and laugh with great intention and anticipation of more. As she is no longer with me, her words and laughter linger on, and the author is emancipated. She learned that the greatest gift of life was and truly is love—unpretentious, nurtured, and existing to be shared with others.
