Gale Harris was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. During her early stages of development, she lived in the Norview section of Norfolk, Virginia. Gale’s education started at the age of one, when she had to learn to formulate speech. This training was conducted informally by her parents and grandparents, and she considers the formal training she received at that time an “educational experience.”
She graduated from Hampton High School in the city of Hampton, Virginia, in 1977. She then went on to study at Norfolk State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Childcare with a minor in Family Studies and a Master of Arts in Teaching.
She received her master’s in educational leadership from George Mason University and began her career teaching in the North Carolina school system. She is currently a teacher at Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Suffolk, Virginia, where she has been teaching for sixteen years.
