“Abortion and The Senseless Assault on Reproductive Rights!” by Dr. Dorris Woods was among the books displayed by Author Reputation Press during the 2024 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (LATFOB) at the University of Southern California on April 20–21, 2024.
The LATFOB is considered to be one of the world’s most significant literary gatherings. It has been held every year since 1996 with the goal of bringing together the people who create books and the people who love to read them. It is attended by more than 550 authors, celebrities, storytellers, and hundreds of exhibitors.
The Los Angeles Times is the country’s biggest metropolitan daily newspaper, with more than 40 million unique latimes.com visitors monthly, a Sunday print readership of 1.6 million, and a combined print and online local weekly viewership of 4.4 million. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Times has been covering Southern California for more than 140 years.
Author Reputation Press once again showcased some of its amazing books in a wide selection of genres in this year’s LATFOB. This book gallery aims to connect readers and authors by exposing it at an event attended by audiences around the globe.
Dr. Dorris Woods is a native of Mississippi. After graduating at the top of her high school class, she left to go to work in Des Moines, Iowa.
She began her career as a pediatric charge nurse at Grady. After completing state board exams, she went to work at Children’s Hospital in Chicago in nursing administration. She left after two years to attend Indiana University in Bloomington. She married her husband, and they moved to California.
She earned a second bachelor of science degree in psychology from NYU and a master’s degree at UCLA, one in pediatrics/administration and the other in mental health. She later earned a doctorate from Claremont Graduate University.
The overturning of Roe v. Wade will have long-term and indelible consequences for American society. The purpose of this book is to be part of the ongoing conversations.
Perfect or not, Roe was working for America. Consequently, it did not need to be “fixed.” The ignorance of attempting to fix it when the ramifications were unknown has resulted in chaos, confusion, inconvenience, and trauma for women who need abortions.
In many cases, the viability of the embryo dictates an abortion. Also important is the fact that medical decisions were taken out of the hands of physicians. That is a “no, no”!
“Abortion and The Senseless Assault on Reproductive Rights!” by Dr. Dorris Woods also addresses the issue of poor ethics in the Supreme Court, as this was also a factor in overturning Roe, as was arrogance.
