The US Review of Books recently announced the much-awaited results for the 2024 Eric Hoffer Book Award.
“His Grace in the Midst of Tragedy” by Edward Lapointe, published by Author Reputation Press, was one of the nominees for the 2024 Eric Hoffer Book Award. It was highly praised by Sarah Poulette of the US Review of Books, highlighting that “The details of Lapointe’s memoir sound grim, but during those long months in the hospital, he realized he would like to better know Christianity, the Bible, and Jesus. It would take him years to fully commit himself to his faith, but he includes throughout his memoir moments that he knows his God was with him from the start, helping him through some of his darkest hours. His faith and optimism infuse the entire memoir with a tone of hope.”
Eric Hoffer Book Award honors the memory of the great American philosopher Eric Hoffer by highlighting salient writing, as well as the independent spirit of small publishers. Since its establishment, the Hoffer has become one of the largest international book awards for small, academic, and independent presses.
The US Review of Books supports the Eric Hoffer Project by publishing the results of the annual Eric Hoffer Award for Books. The Eric Hoffer Award is judged by a separate panel, under the direction of the Eric Hoffer Project.
Author Edward Lapointe is a former Marine from the Vietnam era. He has two children and four grandchildren. He had been estranged from his children for 13 years, and that is the reason he wrote this memoir.
