In this book, award-winning author Greg Messel’s latest historical fiction novel, Alex Hurley’s story is a half political thriller, part romance. The title is based on a famous Robert F. The author, Greg Messel, is a columnist who has won a Wyoming Press Association Award and has contributed writing to a variety of publications. His eleventh novel is this book. He has spent most of his adult life interested in writing, including a career as a writer, columnist, and news editor at newspapers. Greg and his wife, Jean DeFond, live in Edmonds, Washington, near Puget Sound.

“Dreams That Never Were” presents Senator Robert F. Kennedy, then a presidential contender, being shot and killed by assassin Sirhan Sirhan in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on June 5, 1968.
Alex Hurley, a young idealistic reporter from San Francisco, was among the innocent bystanders who were also shot that night. As he gets swept up in the volatile events of 1968, the horrific catastrophe transforms his life. After spending six months as a reporter in Vietnam, Alex has mixed feelings about the fighting.
He lost his first marriage because of the conflict, and his family is on the verge of disintegration. Amid the war, the civil rights battle, and political turmoil in the San Francisco Bay Area, he meets a woman whose love restores his optimism, and the two of them establish a new life together.
