Jim has planted churches in California and Nevada and has experience as a palliative chaplain at West Alley Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente. He completed clinical pastoral education training with HCMA in 2005 and is a Board-Certified Chaplain and a member of the Spiritual Caregiver Association of the USA.
Jim continues to get his CPE and completed his one-year residency at the University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, in 2012. He worked as a psychiatric chaplain at Napa State Mental Hospital and Sutter Memorial Medical Center. He is also a frequent lecturer on “End of Life Issues” and “Hospice Spiritual Interventions.” In “Suicidal Prevention,” he offers grief support to families, medical staff, and caregivers. Jim has been married to Carol Vasquez Garcines for over 44 years and is blessed with two children: Jica and Jeriah, both graduates of Bob Jones University, South Carolina, and their granddaughter, Solenn.
The heartwarming manual “The Role of Spiritual Caregivers to the Terminally Ill Patients: A Resource Manual” by Jim Garcines is an eye-opener for anyone who has never worked in the field or has yet to confront the realities of death. This heartfelt and sober book can serve as a useful initiation for those new to the care of the terminally ill.
The author’s humble nature and sincere concern for dying patients are clearly visible and evident in his work. He is privileged and has a great opportunity to work in the hospital, where he has been exposed to and experienced several needs in pastoral care. His daily experience has taught him a lot about how to effectively minister to patients who are terminally ill and dying. Several times, he feels hurt and sympathetic toward others other than the family of patients.
