Author Charles Campise made more than three thousand trips as a rideshare driver
Charles Campise has recorded over three thousand trips as a rideshare driver in Austin, Texas. In his book, Adventures Of A Rideshare Driver, the author shares a sentimental memoir of his work.
While driving, he was able to provide assistance in cases of distress, such as taking someone to a detox center, explaining local customs and history, as well as suggesting Texas cuisine to his passengers who came to the state for the first time.
He has also driven for dignitaries and soldiers. He even whisked a just-married couple to their honeymoon destination one time.
His shortest trip occurred when he asked a man from New York what brought him to Austin; the man didn’t answer and was dropped off after just four blocks of travel.
Campise’s generosity is also obvious in his accounts. For example, he helped a newly arrived Hispanic lady unload her many packages. And in his waiting times between trips, he bought a meal for a homeless man and he and his wife warmly befriended a visitor from the Middle East.
