In this blog, we’ll talk about Charles Campise’s favorite part of his book.

The author shared his most favorite episode from the book: The Saga of the Drunk Freshmen Girls.

This part narrates how a group of college freshmen girls behaved when they rode his car drunk.

Here’s an excerpt from the book:

“They got into the car and I asked for their destination. One blurted out loudly, “This will not be an easy trip. We each live in a different dorm. Plus, we are starving. We first want to go to McDonald’s for some food. Then, we need to go to our dorms. As we drove towards town, the girls got into a fierce argument about who was paying for the food and whether they should go inside to place the order or go through the drive-up. One girl kept screaming that it was her decision to make, since the ride-share bill was on her credit card. Once that matter got settled, I managed to get in a word. I asked how long they had been in San Marcos and attending our wonderful University. They screamed at once, “We are all Freshmen!!!” I thought to myself that this would be a hefty challenge. It was imperative that I get these overgrown children to their destinations in safe condition. That would please both me and their parents to no end. Besides, I am totally dedicated to driving late at night for the sole purpose of protecting members of the next GREAT generation. We pulled into the parking lot of McDonald’s and all four girls got out and staggered to the door of the establishment. They seemed to be having a shoving match with one another as they waited in line to place orders and get their yummies. Finally, they came out to the car and we resumed our trip to the designated dorms. To my surprise, these were young ladies who were serious about Sunday church attendance. One girl got out at each stop, put her head back inside the car and screamed, “I’ll see ya’ll in church about eleven this morning”. I had no recourse at each stop but to comment in a calm but assuring voice, “Young lady, after tonight you need to be in church”. Funny thing. Each of the young ladies thought that comment was hilarious.”
