Wynn Johnson featured in a radio interview with Benji Cole From CBS Radio
Radio presenter Benji Cole has interviewed Wynn Johnson, author of An Angel Is Born: A Family’s Story.
The author tells the narrative of his and his family’s lives, challenges, bonds, and unconditional love for a deformed child.
It would be hard to keep track of all the individuals we meet in our lives; nevertheless, the few who have a lasting impact on us may be counted on the fingers of one hand.
There are persons like the ones represented in this book. There are many people whose stories are told here: their lives, their times, and their fate, but one person in particular influenced everyone around her without even trying.
An Angel is Born covers nearly seven decades and reflects on a time when things were simpler, but not always better.
If you’re nostalgic, you’ll remember, if you’re a parent, you’ll appreciate, if you’re spiritual, you’ll be nourished, and if you have a heart, you’ll be forever moved.
An Angel Is Born is much more than a story about the life and death of a remarkable special-needs girl.
This is a contemplative chronicle of how every life—and every death—adds its own thread to the tapestry of a family and community. It is nostalgic, honest, and moving.
Many young men are happy to follow in their father’s footsteps, but Wynn Johnson of Plymouth, Minnesota, knew better than to become a coal miner, one of the most dangerous occupations.
Johnson’s father had been severely injured in a coal mining accident before he was born. His paternal grandpa had also been paralyzed in a coal mining accident, and his mother’s grandfather had been slain.
So, on September 9, 1971, Johnson left his hometown of Weeksbury, Ky., with a high school graduation in hand, and set out into the world to pursue his fortune.
He relocated to Springfield, Ohio, and briefly worked for Vining Broom, a broom and mop manufacturing company. He joined the Marines in the mid-1970s and traveled the world.
