“Chance of Precipitation” by Scott Miller explores the dispiriting impact of financial hardships and change on a family’s lifespan

Scott Miller demonstrates his exceptional prowess as an author in the book Chance of Precipitation.

Randy Albertson is ready for a change after 22 years as a collegiate coach, a new athletic director, and a restless alumni organization. Randy’s best buddy, Adam Chadwick, owns a thriving auto dealership in another state, and he decides to take the plunge, but not without the support of his family, as he quickly finds.

After a promising start, Adam suffers a series of misfortunes, and Randy is swept up in the tide. Randy is the only one left to handle the lot when Adam is arrested and charged with fraud. Randy quickly loses everything, including his family, as a result of the bad press generated by the charges and the recession.

Randy ultimately addresses his troubles and struggles forward to get back on his feet with the support of his best friend, an old acquittance, and the prospect of reuniting with his lost family.

We as a culture have all had to deal with change in some form or another at some point in our lives. Change happens for us all, whether it is a tiny, personal change in our everyday lives or the change that comes from the evolution of our society as a whole, and it is up to us whether or not we are the instruments of our own change – or not.

The author does an excellent job of examining the positive and negative that might result from significant change.

The emotional tornado that the reader encounters in this novel is both overpowering and engaging, illustrating the steady fall of a husband and father when the possibility for a change leads him down a stormy road of suffering and loss.

An engaging story like this does well when it properly tackles the nuances of personal relationships and how an evaluation of the self vs. how one’s actions influence others may drastically change a person, which is exactly what this novel achieves.
