Benji Cole of CBS Radio interviews Sylvia Baize, author of “It Was Meant to Be”, a story of heart-warming and inspiring adoption journey
CBS Radio interviewed the author of the memoir, “It Was Meant to Be.” Benji Cole, the host of People of Distinction, got to listen to the author and learn about her motivations for penning the book.
Sylvia Baize was born and raised in Brazil. In the 1970s, her parents relocated from Kansas. Her parents adopted the rest of her siblings, leaving her with only two biological siblings. She grew up in a household where adoption was prevalent, and she had many acquaintances who were into adoption.
She had a dream that when she gets married, she hopes to either operate an orphanage or adopt children. She had no idea how that would turn out at the time. She married at the age of nineteen to Patrick in the United States. They spent seven years in South Dakota. They are the biological parents of three children. They relocated to California and chose to seek adoption, which marked the start of a series of hardships and trials.
Their lives took unanticipated twists as they decided to pursue adoption, and they encountered more than one stormy gale that left them holding on to the Master as they began their adoption adventure. But the three years of agonizing uncertainty and never-ending delays only added to the beauty of their long-awaited dream realization.
Their lives changed after their sweet son-to-be with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus was entrusted to their hands. They managed to navigate their way through medical terminology, doctor visits, and therapies with excitement and some trepidation. They got all too familiar with the hospital walls, long hours in the emergency room, and surgical waiting rooms all too suddenly.
They found themselves on the verge of embarking on yet another adoption odyssey, this time resulting in the adoption of two stunning little girls who are undoubtedly made of sugar and spice (heavy on the spice). Not unexpectedly, they’ve already embarked on another unique adventure in the hopes of discovering a very special little bundle to add to their family.
With five of their six children, the Baize family now resides in Arizona. Their house is a place where little aching hearts have found a reason to laugh, dance, and mend; a place where the joy and messiness of being a family are lived out every day with thankful hearts to the one who brought them together by the tides.
