“Penny Postcards: My Mother’s Life” by Janet Lee is now available for purchase
Janet Lee’s excellent book, “Penny Postcards: My Mother’s Life”, has been published by Author Reputation Press. The readers of this book are reminded of how wonderful it is to remember our mothers. A book that celebrates and values a mother’s life story. This narrative demonstrates a daughter’s admiration and acceptance of her parents’ perseverance and hardship while they worked to improve their children’s lives.
Janet Lee grew up hearing the stories of her parents’ love, and all they endured to finally get together. It was always a dream of hers to someday write their love story. Raising her family and owning her own business for many years made it necessary to put off getting started. She and her mother were so close, and losing her in 1995 was extremely traumatic for her, and that also made it hard for her to get started. But, after retiring, she finally sat down and just started writing all these stories she knew so well. Janet Lee says that it may sound strange, but as she got into writing the story, it was as if her mother took over and was actually writing the words on the pages for her.
In 2000, Janet and Bill (her husband) retired and relocated to Tennessee from California. She loves taking care of her home and loves to bake and cook. She also enjoys visiting her sons, Steve, a fine wine salesperson, and Tony, a retired fire captain, as well as her two brothers and numerous friends, whenever she returns to California. Moreover, she has two sisters—one living nearby and the other in Rhode Island. She intends to publish a second book in the future. Her family and her faith in God are both extremely important to her.
Stella, the author’s mother, is the focus of the dramatic memoir, “Penny Postcards: My Mother’s Life.” Stella was born in a barn in Texas, the sixth of twelve children, and Janet Lee has written a dramatic description of her birth. Her father was a violent alcoholic who abuses his wife frequently and makes his kids work hard so he may continue drinking. Wherever there is fruit or cotton to pick, they travel the country.
Stella meets and falls in love with Clarence as they are temporarily housed in a government camp by the Salvation Army. In order to save money and send money for Stella to join him, he chooses to move to California in search of employment. However, her father has other ideas. Stella comes up with a plan to flee, and as she waits for the opportunity to do so, it turns into a very tense and terrifying night for her. The author’s story of heartbreak, love, and ultimately redemption comes to a spectacular conclusion.
