Benji Cole of CBS Radio interviews Loretta Beacham, the author of “Charlie and the Elephant”
Benji Cole of CBS Radio speaks with Loretta Beacham, the loving mother, and author of “Charlie and the Elephant.” They explore the message of the book as well as the author’s motivation for writing it.
The author of this outstanding book, Loretta Beacham, resides in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, with her partner and two (2) children.
Charlie’s (the author’s daughter) imaginative story served as an inspiration for “Charlie and the Elephant”. Although she goes by Charlie, her real name is Charlotte. Like most children, Charlie has a huge sense of curiosity. She enjoys telling stories, just like other kids, even if her mother (the author) begs her to go to bed.
Charlie’s story is told in “Charlie and the Elephant” with the author’s embellishments. Her desire to expound on her daughter’s story was driven by how delightful and compelling it was.
When Charlie meets the elephant, they go to the magical forest and encounter problems. With the help of a few other creatures in the forest. Meanwhile, they embark on a plan to save the elephant from a grave problem.
The author has been enjoying writing and the power it has to conjure up images. The author of this book acknowledges that several of the drawings inspired the writing.
“Charlie and the Elephant” presents Charlotte, a girl who’s curious and kind, being chosen by a big blue elephant to banish the cruel poachers from the forest. In a daring and determined plan, they join forces with the clever, talkative Mr. Crow and the empathetic, self-sacrificing Miss Ash Tree. With bravery, teamwork, and a surprise ambush by a large flock of crows, they save her friend and savor their triumph.
“Charlie and the Elephant” by Loretta Beacham is a story about a child who cares about other creatures, one who follows her feelings and goes the distance to make a difference. With lovely illustrations by Yvette Besner, it’s a book to be read and remembered.
