The first three days of the fair are exclusively for professional visitors, including agents, publishers, distributors, librarians, teachers, and film production companies, with the general public attending the fair on the last two days.
The Combined Book Exhibit New Title Showcase is part of the large USA Pavilion and attracts thousands of people to the booth.
Richard Dew, MD, has been a family physician in east Tennessee for fifty years and is the author of “When Sorrow Comes: What Can God, You, and Others Do to Help Cope with Grief.” Following the murder of his twenty-one-year-old son, he became active in the Compassionate Friends, an international support group for families whose children have died. He is the author of three previous books: Medicine with a Human Touch, Rachel’s Cry: A Journey through Grief, and Other Side of Silence. He and his wife, Jean, live in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The death of a loved one often results in a grief crisis as well as a spiritual crisis. How do we deal with crises and the damage that can result?
The author examines the effects of these crises and offers suggestions for dealing with them, drawing on his experience as a physician, bereaved father, grieving support group leader, and grief educator.
He explains what grief is and how it affects the bereaved in simple language. He offers practical tips for dealing with the roller coaster of feelings that sorrow can bring—sadness, hopelessness, melancholy, guilt, and anger—and includes guidance for people who want to console friends, coworkers, or family members.
He offers encouragement that the bereaved can arise as hopeful, happy individuals at peace with themselves, their faith, and God, based on his own experiences and those of others with whom he has worked. “When Sorrow Comes: What Can God, You, and Others Do to Help Cope with Grief?” by Dr. Richard Dew for mourning people offers compassionate support as well as simple measures to take during the healing process after a loved one’s death.
