“The Last Laugh Is Mine” is a novel that tells the story of a young man who’s fighting to change an age-old traditional matrilineal system. Owia Atta, the hero, is compelled to become a farmer, despite his desire to be educated and lead this fictitious African community of Wofakurom. He struggles to build his father’s fortune but is disinherited when his father dies, and the assets are passed down to his father’s nephew by tradition and custom.

Owia Atta’s opposition to this practice creates tension throughout the story, resulting in his confrontation with tradition and the subsequent felony for which he is punished. However, his courageous attempts have had a significant impact on his community.

“The Last Laugh Is Mine” captures the truth of an ethnic group’s worldview and highlights its potential to cause social turmoil. It weaves together political, social, cultural, and economic challenges, as well as historical events and the role of traditional African society in the modern world.
