Richard Dew, MD, the author of “When Sorrow Comes: What Can God, You, and Others Do to Help Cope with Grief?,” is interviewed by CBS Radio’s Benji Cole. The interview is about the discussion of the message of the book as well as the author’s purpose for writing this masterpiece.
People of Distinction is one of the most wide-ranging radio shows in the United States, hosted by Benji Cole and Al Cole from CBS Radio. People of Distinction is the right fit for authors and readers to discover newly published books, mostly written by passionate and independent authors.
Benji Cole, the host of the program, is a world-class interviewer, video formulator, Los Angeles actor, and filmmaker. He’s shared the acting stage with superstar Tom Hanks.
Richard Dew, MD, the author, has been a family physician in East Tennessee for fifty years. Following the death of his twenty-one-year-old son, he became active in Compassionate Friends, an international support group for families whose children have died. He is the author of three previous books: Medicine with a Human Touch, Rachel’s Cry: A Journey through Grief, and The Other Side of Silence. He and his wife, Jean, live in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The author is a physician who writes not only professionally about grief but also about his own grief in relation to his son being murdered and his father dying soon after this. Currently, he is a volunteer medical director for a faith-based clinic for uninsured people.
“When Sorrow Comes: What Can God, You, and Others Do to Help Cope with Grief?” by Richard Dew, MD, is acclaimed by Carol Anderson, D.Min., ACSW, MSW, of the US Review of Books, who underscores that “the author’s book is a good, basic look into grief and the process of grief. The advice on how to cope with one’s grief and help others to cope is one of the standouts of the book. By writing from his own experiences with the grief process, the author adds special insight into what it is like to go through such loss. He uses poetry and biblical quotes to add to the connection of healing, and there is much pertinent information on ways to cope and heal. The book is written from a Christian worldview, so it may prove especially valuable to Christian believers. Overall, it is a good read and may be helpful to many people.”
Moreover, this masterpiece was displayed at the 2022 Frankfurt International Book Fair, which is the biggest book fair in the world, both in terms of the number of publishing houses present and the number of professional and general public attendees. It is regarded as the most significant book fair in the world for worldwide business and trading. The Combined Book Exhibit New Title Showcase is part of the large USA Pavilion and attracts thousands of people to the booth.
In this book, the author explains what grief is and how it affects the bereaved in simple language. He offers practical tips for dealing with the roller coaster of feelings that sorrow can bring—sadness, hopelessness, melancholy, guilt, and anger—and includes guidance for people who want to console friends, coworkers, or family members.
