In Squamish Language, Ilhenaylh translates to “Feast.” The author has written this book from her perspective as an Aboriginal Woman who has returned to eating and living in a healthier way. She also shares that her own health forced her to look at food and providing for her family in a better way and teaching her children to eat better so they could develop good habits about food.

She views food in her own culture from a unique perspective and hope to share that view with her readers. For the first nation people, they have long held food as part of ceremony as well as for food. It is an integral part of their culture and spiritual ceremonies. Her vision is to help people understand that Gluten free cooking can be easy, fun, and delicious.

Indigenous philosophy defines health as having a strong body, mind, and spirit as well as being free of sickness. Thus, succeeding Indigenous generations have learned to pick meals in suitable proportions to give the body the necessary nutrients through experience and the teachings of their elders. Food is not only a source of energy and vigor, but it is also a form of medicine.
