Author Reputation Press is honored to be in partnership with Publishers Weekly Magazine in featuring and marketing excellent published reads written by dedicated and passionate authors. Millions of books are published, but only a few are featured by a credible and globally trusted magazine, Publishers Weekly.
Publishers Weekly, now celebrating its 150th anniversary, is familiarly known in the book world as PW and “the bible of the book business.” Focused on the international book publishing business, it is now a multimedia news platform with full horizontal coverage of book publishing, beginning with the author-as-creator to the publisher, printer, and distributor to the end consumer. Its varied products are targeted at publishers, booksellers, librarians, literary agents, authors, book lovers, and the media. It offers feature articles and news on all aspects of the book business, bestseller lists in a number of categories, and industry statistics, but its best-known service is prepublication book reviews, of which it publishes nearly 9,000 per year.
Author Bona Udeze was born in Nigeria and now lives in the United States in Illinois. He studied urban and regional planning, specializing in city design and development and environmental policy and planning. His first book, WHY AFRICA? A Continent in a Dilemma of Unanswered Questions was inspired by his great artwork, “Why Africa?” It helps readers navigate the challenges of the African question.
He is also the author of the novel Just Arrived: A Different World. It is the story of an African immigrant who arrived in the United States, with obstacles and culture shock staring him eyeball to eyeball.
“Just Arrived: A Different World” by Bona Udeze presents the story of Emeka, an immigrant who has just arrived in America, landing at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. He quickly realizes that he is now in a new world, far from the life he lived in Africa.
He’s not the only one facing challenges. The values decreed in Chief Agu’s household are threatened by his Americanized son, and the chief rethinks sending his son away to study.
Prince Ichie, a man whose wealth seemed undeserved, dies unexpectedly. Okon struggles with universal minority status, and Nene is incarcerated by her in-laws due to her husband’s death.
Aunty Elizabeth is forced to fling her baby into a fast-moving stream to save her own life during the civil war. Finally, Emeka seeks love on foreign soil and might find it in Nicole, but a miscarriage of justice and Emeka’s arrest for crimes he didn’t commit throw his future into chaos.
This masterpiece is a vivid portrait of several individuals struggling to acclimate to new cultures and new lives. The challenges they face are all too real in a world both cruel and kind, loving and filled with hate.
