Share Your Bookish Pet Peeves with Us!

Even though we love to talk about books a lot, we occasionally get irritated. There are a lot of things about books—both material and writing-related—that could cause irritation to readers. Things that you just can’t seem to get over are known as pet peeves. In this instance, you always act this way because of your bookish pet peeves.

Here are some grievances many readers share:

  • Borrowing books and not giving them back.
  • Poor editing/grammar.
  • Cliffhangers I wasn’t expecting any surprise sequels or series.
  • People are talking to me while I’m trying to read.
  • Spoiling Books for Others.
  • Comparing books that are in no way related.
  • Stiff bindings, so it’s hard to hold a book open. I need floppy paperbacks!
  • Gratuitous swear words. Sometimes it’s so often that I can’t even focus on the story!
  • Book descriptions or covers that misrepresent the book’s contents.
  • People ask me why I love to read so much and then proceed to tell me all of the reasons why they hate reading. Why do they think I care?

Do you agree with any of these? What are your bookish pet peeves?

Do you have more, or are yours the same as these? We appreciate talking to others about their bookish idiosyncrasies and pet peeves, so please share them in the comments section below or on social media so that we don’t feel so alone in these book world streets!

Now, this blog also highlights the book of author Connie Smith, “The Pie, The Pie, and Oh That Smell!”. Read it and share your thoughts about it. If you find any peeves while reading it, then comment on them in the comment section. It would be better to read this book aloud with your children during bedtime or during snack time.

“The Pie, The Pie, and Oh That Smell!” by Connie Smith is a children’s picture book that teaches children the importance of showing their appreciation for the wonderful things their parents do every day—and the fun of pitching in and helping out!

“The Pie, The Pie, and Oh That Smell!” is a book that was highly praised by Michael Radon of the US Review of Books, who highlighted that “this book, with its large illustrations, colorful characters, and warm, inviting tone, not only shows kids how parents need and deserve gratitude for their efforts but also opens up the conversation about children pitching in on tasks that they may take an interest in when they are old enough to handle them.”

It’s the story of a mother who enjoys baking desserts like pies. Her family enjoys her pastries, but she got tired of making them one day. Her family missed the beautiful smell of her baking after she stopped cooking. But how would they express their appreciation for her? Will she prepare a special apple pie for her daughter’s birthday?
