Throughout human history, there have been cycles in key stages of life: the beginning, the struggle, and the ending. It is a natural norm that—whatever begins must end. Typically, individuals, families, communities, and societal lifespans have experienced varying and inevitable levels of natural struggles. However, the degrees of these challenges differ from one case scenario to another. In fact, every experience is unique, even within a family unit. Simply put, struggles are facts of life.

Author Rachi Ngaine was born and raised in an African Kenyan village. His parents were unschooled but were God-loving. He is the second-born of a pile of six siblings but the first to start school on his own initiative. He grew up typically in a traditional rural village with close family ties—under really challenging economic and social circumstances.

Rachi is blessed with unique character, goals, spirit, and roots. He started real life by performing kiddie-like tasks around the homestead and gradually assumed the larger roles of shepherding family goats and sheep and volunteering as a bare-foot house-to-house and short-distance messenger for neighbors in his village. Rachi met Christ while a teenager was born again (transformed) and continues the Christian walk of faith. At age eleven (11), he voluntarily participated in and survived the “bloody” Mau Mau civil war. The outlawed movement ultimately won Kenya’s long-awaited political independence from the British Empire in December 1963, after 43 years of colonialism. Rachi has traveled widely around the world and is active in community affairs.

In this 3rd edition of the book series, Been There, Done That, and Still Here! Decades of Invaluable Experiences: A Legend of an Unsung Warrior,” the author updates the memoir of his lifetime journey and related experiences.

The book expands on a comprehensive and potent discussion of family values and determination. “Been There, Done That, and Still Here! is a concise creation of author Rachi Ngaine, BBA, MSPA, CPA, CGMA, a former native of Kenya. Rachi, now a naturalized citizen of the United States, finally served the US federal government in a civil service capacity for fifteen years prior to retiring at age 75 in December 2017.

In these decades of experiences, Rachi Ngaine narrates decades of personal and invaluable experiences of survival—persevering through the challenges of growing up in a traditional learning environment from early childhood in his native Kenyan village. The experiences and stories amplify the appetite and personal struggles for education and gaining knowledge through public schools, colleges, and universities, choosing a career path, and taking tough handwritten academic tests and professional exams toward jobs that led to self-actualization, self-esteem, a successful career, and a formal retirement. The book is an affirmation of a typical family’s basic value system: endurance, human dignity, identity, and integrity.
