The New York Times Book Review (NYTBR) features “Sculptor of the North” by Doug Petersen

Doug Petersen’s masterpiece, “Sculptor of the North,” was featured in the summer issue of The New York Times Book Review (NYTBR) Magazine of 2024.

Current non-fiction and fiction books are reviewed in The New York Times Book Review (NYTBR), a weekly paper magazine supplement to the Sunday edition of The New York Times (an American daily newspaper with a worldwide readership reported in 2020 to be a growing 6 million paid digital subscribers). It is one of the most well-known and significant book reviews in the business.

Mari Carlson of the US Review of Books reviewed and commended “Sculptor of the North: The Evolution of a Soul” by Doug Petersen:

“The resulting tone is of a stoic acceptance of change and gratitude for his companions along the way. An epilogue, photos, and a postscript suggest an ongoing metamorphosis. A sequel is promised.”

“Sculptor of the North: The Evolution of a Soul” by Doug Petersen is a story of hope and determination. He didn’t give up on his life, despite how hard it was and how chaotic it could be. He may have had one of the most difficult lives after his house burned down, and he needs to start over again. After so many years of living homeless in the woods, he was able to achieve his dream and became a sculptor.

“Sculptor of the North” by Doug Petersen was among the books displayed by Author Reputation Press during the 2024 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (LATFOB) at the University of Southern California on April 20–21, 2024.

LATFOB is considered to be one of the world’s most significant literary gatherings. It has been held every year since 1996 with the goal of bringing together the people who create books and the people who love to read them. It is attended by more than 550 authors, celebrities, storytellers, and hundreds of exhibitors.

Author Doug Peterson went through ups and downs in life. He lives in Richfield, Minnesota, a southern suburb of Minneapolis. His childhood was peaceful as he spent it playing baseball and the piano until he reached the rebellious age of a teenager when he started drag racing. His police record was not bad, as it just contained speeding tickets and a rioting incident.

He graduated in 1969 and started living on his own. It was during his university years when the Vietnam War broke out, and he stated in a brief narrative how he was able to survive after being caught in a riot of an anti-war protest.

Last year, “Sculptor of the North” by Doug Petersen was among the books displayed by Author Reputation Press during the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023 in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 18–22, 2023.

The Frankfurter Buchmesse, reportedly known as the world’s largest trade fair for books, opened its doors to participants around the globe celebrating books and their authors. The massive book fair also celebrated its 75th anniversary last year. Slovenia, their guest of honor this year, presented itself as a nation with a rich literary history in addition to being a desirable tourism destination.

Also, Los Angeles Times Magazine and Publishers Weekly Magazine feature “Sculptor of the North: The Evolution of a Soul” by Doug Petersen. The Los Angeles Times is the country’s biggest metropolitan daily newspaper, with more than 40 million unique latimes.com visitors monthly, a Sunday print readership of 1.6 million, and a combined print and online local weekly viewership of 4.4 million. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Times has been covering Southern California for more than 141 years. While Publishers Weekly celebrated its 150th anniversary, it is familiarly known in the book world as PW and “the bible of the book business.” Focused on the international book publishing business, it is a multimedia news platform with full horizontal coverage of book publishing, beginning with the author-as-creator to the publisher, printer, and distributor to the end consumer. Its varied products are targeted at publishers, booksellers, librarians, literary agents, authors, book lovers, and the media.
