Black Eagle was named by his chief, Fox Hunter of the Vargas Clan of Texas, who trained him in the craft of measuring and marking the land. This honorable profession was passed on from the Spanish to us. They learned if from the Romans and improved it with the trigonometry gained during the Moorish rule of Spain.

Black Eagle was born a poor brown child in East Los Angeles, where he grew up in the Mexican American community and was accepted as one.  There he learned the struggle of the Mexican peoples to assimilate into a white majority culture, He learned to love the great Constitution of the United States, which preserves the God given rights of all.  He worked for 40 years as a surveyor and his great hope is to see the treaty of Guadalupe Hildalgo brought before the International Court so at last, the indigenous people of the Southwest can have justice.

This is a fictional book based on historical journeys by Americans of Mexican decent to settle San Francisco and California.
