Book NewsH. Allenger: Highlights

The US Review of Books commends H. Allenger’s “Polyxena” for its “fleshed-out tale” and more

A couple of weeks ago, H. Allenger’s mythology-inspired novel “Polyxenareceived critical acclaim from Hollywood Book Reviews. The book review website praised the novel for its “sumptuous and vivid” description of the daily life in the classical world and its “entertaining and exotic” narrative.

Critical acclaim for the action and adventure book continues to pile up as The US Review of Books (USRB) praises Polyxena for several good reasons. Book reviewer Gabriella Tutino calls it an enjoyable fresh take on the famous Greek myth. She goes on writing:

“Weaving various aspects of the stories together, the author presents an alternate look at what befell the city of Troy and its royal inhabitants. Filled with romance, political intrigue, and the violence of war, this is a fleshed-out tale that brings the myth to life.”

In the book, the eponymous heroine faces death after she rejected the advances of her captor following the fall of Troy. Polyxena, daughter of King Priam, relates her thoughts to Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess she holds responsible for having orchestrated her fate, to find solace and overcome her fear of death.

After Troy’s defeat, Polyxena becomes a captive of Achilles and the two found romance with each other. She is then sent to the Amazons to call for aid against the Greeks. She tries to keep their forbidden love a secret upon her return to Troy. However, through treachery, her brothers learn of it, leading to a tragic outcome for them both.

The USRB also commends the author for doing “a great job of keeping this suspense going until the very end.” You can read the full review here.
