Author Spotlight: Dr. Tyrone Waters, author of “You Would Be Paranoid Too If This Happened to You”

Dr. Tyrone Waters, author of You Would Be Paranoid Too If This Happened to You, is a Gulf War Veteran who himself battled paranoid schizophrenia since 1995. Through those years, Dr. Waters has always been public about his struggles with this condition.
Dr. Waters is an active advocate of mental health. He holds an Honorary Doctor of Divinity and also earned his Doctor of Religious Science degree. He is also a Certified Life Coach.
The author currently lives in Portland, Oregon. In 2001, Dr. Waters was shot by Portland Police during a mental breakdown outside his home. This incident prompted him to write a book with the goal of shedding light on mental illness and educating law enforcers on the proper way of dealing with people with mental health issues when they are incarcerated.
His book provides an in-depth discussion about schizophrenia and its symptoms as well as the different medications available to treat this condition. The author also hopes for the book to help remove the stigma associated with mental illness. Dr. Waters describes this condition as a chemical imbalance in the brain that can be treated with medication.
