“Out of Darkness” by Diane Mobley was nominated for the 2023 Eric Hoffer Book Award
Every year, everyone has been waiting for the great news. And now, the results for the Eric Hoffer Book Award have been released.
Diane Mobley’s “Out of Darkness,” published by Author Reputation Press, participated in the 2023 Eric Hoffer Book Award. This masterpiece is the story of the author’s son, Michael, and the grief they suffered due to their loss. Nothing can be more painful to a mother than losing a child she dearly loves.
The Eric Hoffer Book Award commemorates the memory of the famous American philosopher Eric Hoffer by honoring outstanding writing and the independent spirit of small publishers. Since its foundation, Hoffer has grown to become one of the most prestigious worldwide book awards for small, academic, and independent presses.
The Eric Hoffer Book Award committee has completed its judging process for another year. Each person who participated and submitted their entry is appreciated. Thank you for your support. The award is facilitated by The Eric Hoffer Project, dedicated to maintaining Hoffer’s work and legacy.
This heartwarming patronage has helped make the Eric Hoffer Book Award one of the world’s premium independent book awards. Every book was carefully read and evaluated. Being part of this is such an honor and privilege for many.
“Out of Darkness” by Diane Mobley is highly commended by Donna Ford of the US Review of Books, who highlights that “these experiences effectively recount a tragic nightmare—one full of anger, denial, guilt, and grief. Yet, Mike’s father noted that his wife became her old self as she worked with the help of a friend to recall and record them. In fact, Mike’s father was among the first willing to offer his memories. The healing which resulted from the author’s efforts can serve as a guide to others on how to heal their own lives. Mobley’s poignant and honest book could serve as a helpful model for readers facing similar situations to record some of their own grief.”
Author Diane Mobley continues to reside in the same Fayetteville, North Carolina, neighborhood in which she grew up. She spends much of her time with dear family and friends and loves to speak to others about suicide prevention when given the opportunity.
Her number one priority in life is to prevent suicide by reaching out to others. She has often said, “I have never met a stranger … No matter where I go, I make new friends. If writing this book can either heal or save one life from suicide, then the painful journey of reliving the horrific events of that November 1994 morning will be worth it.“
The author pursued sharing this story to help others with their pain, not fully understanding the healing it would bring for her and her family. Sharing the story of Michael has been the most effective therapy for us all.
Now they can talk about him again and remember the good along with the bad. By sharing his story, they now have their joy and peace back. It has been a long journey. Her hope is that it will help others to stop and think before making a decision to give up on life. Tomorrow is a new day, and where there is life, there is hope.
