“Navigating the Quartz Forest” by Biman Roy was nominated for the 2024 Eric Hoffer Book Award
The US Review of Books recently announced the much-awaited results for the 2024 Eric Hoffer Book Award.
“Navigating the Quartz Forest” by Biman Roy, published by Author Reputation Press, was one of the nominees for the 2024 Eric Hoffer Book Award. It was commended by Joyce Jacobo of the US Review of Books, highlighting that “As such, translating the notecards feels very much like thoughtful steps taken to bridge that gap. There is also the guidance learned through past experiences that might be helpful in the future, which gets provided with much care and love. The heartfelt nature of such an endeavor makes this read more than a little endearing and a perfect present for parents to their children. In fact, it would be easy to see this collection being given from a parent to a child before they graduate from high school or college in honor of their special bond.”
Eric Hoffer Book Award honors the memory of the great American philosopher Eric Hoffer by highlighting salient writing, as well as the independent spirit of small publishers. Since its establishment, the Hoffer has become one of the largest international book awards for small, academic, and independent presses.
The US Review of Books supports the Eric Hoffer Project by publishing the results of the annual Eric Hoffer Award for Books. The Eric Hoffer Award is judged by a separate panel, under the direction of the Eric Hoffer Project.
Biman Roy has been writing poetry for the past three decades and has been widely published. His writing has been nominated for the Best of the Net and Pushcart awards. Biman Roy is the author of one chapbook of prose poems, Of Moon and Washing Machine, and two other poetry chapbooks, Dinosaur Hour and Navigating the Quartz Forest.

Each dreamlike lyric in Biman Roy’s Navigating the Quartz Forest is charmingly paired with a small handwritten note hastily jotted down on blue-lined notebook paper—artifacts from his daughter’s life outside the family home.
Last 2023, this masterpiece was among the books displayed by Author Reputation Press during the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 18-22, 2023.
